The Spotlight
Researchers caught unethically using AI
A recent video reveals some researchers have copied large passages of content verbatim directly from ChatGPT into their published studies, raising academic integrity concerns.
Experts cite this as further evidence that many journals are not properly reviewing papers to detect plagiarism prior to publication. Relying solely on automated checks fails to catch AI-generated text. More robust screening processes are needed.
Leaning on chatbots to write studies also undermines the scientific purpose of advancing knowledge through human inquiry. If not contributing original analysis, researchers detract from collective understanding.
The revelations underscore the need for heightened scrutiny in research publishing, stronger human oversight of emerging generative AI, and renewed commitments to integrity as technology increasingly infiltrates academia and beyond
You can also know which research paper was copied and pasted directly from ChatGPT by searching “as an ai language model -chatgpt” on Google Scholar.
Other EdTech News
No more privacy: AI researchers claim 93% accuracy in detecting keystrokes over Zoom audio. Your passwords could be stolen just by the sound of your keyboard.
Killing two birds with one stone(edtech): Majority of teachers cite edtech as key to supporting diverse learners while reducing workloads.
EdTech loses investments: Overall funding to the education sector has plummeted this year, down nearly two-thirds from the same period in 2022.
